Ep. 10 | Recess cultivates creativity with agency
Pause. Play. Commune.
Those are the three words that come to mind when introducing Recess Community - a Toronto-based collective dedicated to helping people explore their creative curiosity.
Within a studio at Toronto’s storied 401 Richmond building, an array of active, uniquely curated events and immersive programming runs about. Much like a game of four square, or time for sketching - similar to indoor/outdoor recesses of your youth - the space is abundant with like minds that are not only open, but rejuvenated with every interaction.
I’ve known the crew from time - I thank one of my closest pals and an alumnus of The Fold podcast, Tanya Mok, for bringing me into their fold - and they never cease to inspire me. An every-present conversation over the years has been around music. I finally sat down with founders, Celeste Ovita Cole and Shanik Tanna, to delve into the soundtrack that has shaped their own personal meaning to their namesake activity and spirit - Recess.
Tunes: In this episode, we’ll hear music by Wu Tang Clan, NERD, 50 Cent, SZA, Smokey Robinson, and Blu & Exile.
TRACKLIST:
